abas Software AG is one of the leading providers of ERP software. For 35 years, abas Software AG has been providing flexible ERP solutions for medium-sized companies, which are often among the market leaders in their field. In the course of this, abas Software AG develops its own software products such as abas ERP or abas Docs.

Among other things, Shapefield supports the agile Docs development team in the design and realisation of the smartphone app called "Docs Mobile". Docs in general is a powerful solution for securely uploading, storing, sharing, searching, versioning and archiving all relevant company documents. It supports the most important formats such as PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, JPEG, PNG, AVI, MP3, MOV, SolidWorks graphics, CAD documents and Zip files. True to the motto "find instead of search", the user gets a transparent overview of his documents in a matter of seconds. In addition to the smartphone app "Docs Mobile", Docs is also available as a Web application and as an integration in abas ERP. In this context, Shapefield is also responsible for the UX design.

Based on the global UX design framework "abas Web UX" by Shapefield, an adaptation was made especially for smartphone apps such as "Docs Mobile". A simple operating concept was developed with the abas Docs product owner in cooperation with a Shapefield lead designer. In the second step, the visual design was created and resilient teasers for the in-house customer conference "abas 2018" were developed. The design was also presented directly to real end users at the customer conference. The feedback was extremely positive.

For more than twenty years, the Rhineland-Palatinate Cancer Registry has been a competent contact for all questions regarding the registration and evaluation of epidemiological and clinical data on cancer in Rhineland-Palatinate. The legally required reports on new cases, progression and therapy of oncological diagnoses can be transmitted to the Rhineland-Palatinate Cancer Registry via classic reporting forms or with the help of an online portal. A team of medical documentalists works in the background on the preparation, evaluation and administration of the corresponding reports. Sometimes the classic reporting forms are manually scanned and further processed in combination with a second pivot monitor (upright).

Shapefield was commissioned with a comprehensive redesign of the administration software. Due to the large mass of data, the focus of the new design was on processing the messages as efficiently as possible. As an introduction to the project, a context analysis was carried out on site in Mainz. This gave the Shapefield team a deep insight into the everyday work of the documentalists. In addition to more clarity and structure, advanced search and filter techniques proved to be an essential factor for the new user interface. The findings of the context analysis flowed into a subsequent conceptual design. The new user interface concept was then evaluated in a focus group with the documentalists and found to be optimal right away. In addition to a screencast, a simple click prototype was also created. The existing CI concept of the Cancer Registry Rhineland-Palatinate served as a template for the visual design. This was appropriately expanded with regard to the colour scheme. As a basic visual direction, the visual design was to be oriented towards the current styles of flat design and material design.

After the design and the creation of a design manual, the WPF development took place. All controls from the design manual were implemented pixel-perfectly with XAML and C#. The new controls were handed over to the development team of the Rhineland-Palatinate Cancer Registry as a separate project library including a demo application. From now on, Shapefield will continue to provide support for new requirements. Managing Director David C. Thömmes adds: "We were able to go through the entire user-centred design process and all project participants pulled in the same direction. This was an exemplary project!".
